It’s official, I’m getting old…. My optometrist told me on Saturday that I now need a separate pair of glasses for reading & hand sewing. So until my new ones arrive, no embroidery for me! The Christmas decorations will have to be on hold until the weekend. I have been getting horrible headaches so I’m glad to finally find the cause.
In the meantime I’ve been working on a quilt for my daughter, using “Sweetcakes” by Riley Blake designs fabric https://www.fabric.com/quilting-fabric-coordinating-quilting-fabrics-riley-blake-sweetcakes.aspx. I bought a “Sweetcakes” Rolie Polie at this year’s Craft & Quilt show at Darling Harbour. I later discovered that a Rolie Polie is half the size of a Jelly Roll (a Rolie Polie is 20 strips of fabric, and a Jelly Roll is 40 strips of fabric). Luckily, I was able to purchase a second Rolie Polie along with coordinating fabric from fabric.com in the US. This was only an issue because I wanted to make a full size Jelly Roll quilt for a single bed. Otherwise, I would have just halved the pattern and used the single Rolie Polie to make a half size lap quilt.
I am making the quilt using a pattern called “Hidden in the Stars” from the book “Jelly Roll Inspirations” by Pam and Nicky Lintott (ISBN-10: 978-0-7153-3311-2, ISBN-13: 0-7153-3311-9). I am now about halfway through having the quilt top pieced together, then I will be adding borders and having the quilt professionally quilted since this one will be a little too big for my machine (and patience) to handle.
With any luck, tonight I may be able to iron and finish cutting the squares and have an updated progress photo to post!
